Homemade Water Colors
Do you have a budding Monet in the family? If you are like me your children love to get creative. Every child I know loves to paint. Finding a good non-toxic paint is difficult at times. Or at least finding one that is not very expensive. It seems the healthier we try to make things for our children, the more expensive it is.
I have a recipe to share with you all that is non toxic and very cheapt to make. This recipe uses items that you probably already have in your kitchen pantry. The good part is that it is extremely easy to make!
Things You’ll Need:
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. baking soda
- 4 Tabsp. corn starch
- 1 Tbsp. light corn syrup
- food coloring
- stryofoam egg carton
HOMEMADE NON-TOXIC WATER COLOR PAINT
Stir baking soda and vinegar togethe in a bowl. It will begin to foam. Allow the foam to settle and add a few drops of food coloring. Now stir in the corn syrup and corn starch. Now that it is all mixed together. Pour into the styrofoam egg carton.Allow this to harden.
This recipe will make one color. SO now just repeat for however many colors you would like. This recipe is easy to make changes to. One that has been suggested to me by a friend was to add instant jell-o to the mixture. This will make your creations smell nice. Kind of like scratch-n-sniff. I have not tried this… but it sounds like a fun addition!
